Orderliness and calm in SA schools

My reflection experience base on WIL in terms of school and classroom discipline

My experience during the WIL ,was a very productive experience.I wasn't observing only but i was involved in every activity that took place at the school.Which gave me an opportunity to be physical involve and with full interaction with learners and stuff members of the school.I learned a lot during the WIL .The school i was in, is Masakhane Combined School, located in the Mashishila circuit at Albert Luthuli Municipality.

The school  Mashakhane is a very organised school and has orderliness .The code of conduct shows clearly rules and regulations that has to be followed by every member of the school, that  includes stuff members learners and the community (SGB) .Right and responsibilities are stated clearly .The school has its own culture and beliefs that suits everyone. It is a very developed school and with lot of technology teaching and learning material.the school is safe and in good shape.they keep learners disciplined by applying rules that are good for everyone in the school. It does not promote racism and abuse .

My classroom experience
Learners and teachers come in time ,and the safety of learners and teachers is a first priority .This show orderliness at the school. classroom discipline is maintained at all time .Learners know exactly what is accepted at the school and whats not.learners know that they should be friendly, keep the classrooms in order, the teacher knows her learners in the class, learning is fun. threats are not  enforced.the teacher does not argue  with the learners.Teachers let the learners  know they care, and class rules are develop to keep discipline.

  • The first and most important strategy that the teacher used to create a calm and orderliness classroom situation ,is that She  welcomes the learners into class every morning  and asked them about their weekend ,compliment them, and the learners felt welcome, and already they knew what is expected of them .
  • During lessons if a learner is not paying attention the teacher uses his/her name to make an example,so the learner can pay attention and listen to what the teacher is saying .
  • If a learner did something wrong the teacher calls the learner privately and  talk with him/her,so that the learner can not feel humiliated in front of the class because of the bad thing she/he did.Or if the behavior is done by all the learners ,calmly so the teacher talks to them and after go back to the lesson .
  • The teacher used different strategies to maintain discipline in class by always applying  question and answer method during lessons .she allowed learners to come forward to give answers and write in the board.she made sure that she involve learners.
And the leaner received stars at the end of the day for good behavior .this strategy, helps learners to remember that to get a star i have to follow the class rules and listen to the teacher and respect their fellow classmates and the teacher as well.learners seemed to enjoy that . With this strategies the teacher always manage to maintain calmness in the classroom and an accepted good behavior from the learners . indeed it was a great experience and as a future teacher i will apply this strategies to keep calm and orderliness in my class.

ICT Barriers in South African Education - my view

ICT Barriers in South African Education

The are so many ICT barriers in South African Education especially in  African schools that are affect  teaching and learning

TYPES OF BARRIERS

  • Lack of reliable access to electricity
  •  Limited technology infrastructure
  • Poor internet connection
  • Poverty
  • high crime rate

In my school we did have  ICT  but we were  forbidden to use them  due to poor knowledge, beside that we didn't have teachers who where technologically advance. We didn't see how important ICT was back then because we were not told about it at all, mostly we used our phones to access the internet but it was only does who had phones. In  my community crime is  high and we had poor security at our school so they stole the few computer we had .

It was a great loss to the school because they had to go and ask assistance to other schools in terms of typing documents and so on.The community never stood up for that because they also didn't know much about ICT ,i think it is very important for the government to introduce ICT in African schools.so the learners can get used to ICT. Now life is about technology so i feel that its about time all African school  to use technology for teaching and learning to make life easy for everyone.
